Baby lungfish teeth haven’t changed in 360 million years.

Animals change over millions of years of evolution. By looking at a fossilized animal from millions of years ago and comparing it to its living descendant, scientists can see how the animal species has changed. Modern lungfish, for example, have many differences from ancient lungfish that lived 360 million years ago. One major difference is their teeth. However, fossilized baby lungfish from 360 million years ago have the exact same developing teeth as baby lungfish that live today. In 360 million years, the development of teeth in lungfish has remained the same, even though the final teeth in adults look very different.
